Ven. Marut has been teaching in the Lake Tahoe area on a regular basis for over 5 years now. His visits to the area are greatly anticipated and serve a growing community of serious spiritual practitioners as well as curious newcomers who are seeking ways to live a better life. On this visit Ven. Marut will address the deeply intimate and often difficult relationship between discipline and relaxation in a spiritual practice.
Ven. Marut impresses upon us that it is important to work hard for our spiritual goals. However, he cautions us against bringing the familiar afflicted patterns of stress and ambition, which so often accompany our secular life, into our spiritual practice. The primary goal of a spiritual life is not to be overworked and stressed out, but to live a calm life of true and lasting happiness. How can we distinguish when it is important for us to work hard and strive and when our main obligation is to relax and accept? With profound wisdom and surprising humor, Ven. Marut inspires fresh perspectives on this topic relevant to spiritual seekers of all faiths. The teaching will be supported by texts drawn from a number of authentic spiritual traditions, including Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity.
Ven. Marut’s presentation flows with warmth and wit between the realms of simple spiritual common sense and the most esoteric brain busters of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. Known for his unique ability to connect ancient Eastern traditions with practical applications to Western life, as well as for an entertaining style, Ven. Marut offers teachings to the general public by donation only.
Can’t wait!
